Week 1: Reading and finding research topic

18 August 2015

This is the first time I met Professor Anas and Ms. Anin in person. We had some small talk then move on to talking about what I would like to get out of this internship. So I explained what I am interested in and what do I want to achieve through this internship.

I have mentioned that I do not have much knowledge about water sensitive urban planning (WSUD) and I would like to learn more about it. So the professor asked Ms. Anin to send me some relevant documents so that I can read to learn more about it and hopefully gives me an idea of what I would like to research about.

Below are what I received:
Well, I didn't get to finish reading everything in a week for sure!

Direction 2031 And Beyond: http://www.planning.wa.gov.au/publications/826.asp

The CRCWSC also has lots of publications: http://watersensitivecities.org.au/publications/synthesis-reports/ ; http://watersensitivecities.org.au/publications/technical-reports/Which hopefully helps to spark my interest.

Other times of the week...

I spent quite a lot of time reading a lot of the documents that I received. However, I realised that all I do is keep reading all day long and I haven't been thinking about what I would like to do for me research. I spent my Sunday and Monday thinking about it. I talked to my friends about various sort of topics about liveability, the locals idea of livability and water resources in Perth.

Our conversation was mainly about growing population, big houses, travelling time, controlling number of cars in the busy area, parking fee, public transport, toll fee, cementing/tiling the whole yard and Gnangara Mound. I had plenty of opinion and thoughts about all that and yet still I find myself lost. VERY LOST I should say. I wrote down some ideas but they all seems to be bad ideas to me. Made me nervous to meet the professor on coming Tuesday.
